One of the big worries many people have about getting old is the fact that their sex life is meant to go down the pan. Yes they enjoy it now, but the consensus has always been that once you reach the age of 65 you are more concerned about companionship than cumming. Well, a new study may well have put paid to that idea.<\/p>\n
A\u00a0US survey\u00a0has found that 40% of those aged between 65 and 80 report being sexually active, with half of those who have a partner still going at it.<\/p>\n
The findings are part of the University of Michigan’s National Poll on Healthy Aging, and are based on online answers from around 1,000 participants aged between 65 and 80.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recognise that sex and sexual health is something that is very important to the health and wellbeing of older people but is not something that gets a lot of attention,\u201d said Dr Erica Solway, who was involved in the research. That, she says, could be because either individuals or medical professionals don\u2019t talk about the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thought this was a unique way to better understand this issue from the perspective of older people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The results show that 84% of men and 69% of women between 65 and 80 believe sex is important to a relationship, regardless of age.<\/p>\n
There does seem to be a bit of a change on the sex drive of both sexes however. While 12% of women reported having a strong interest in sex, more than 50% of men said the same. Fewer men were \u201cextremely or very\u201d happy with their sex life compared with women. This means that women are happier with less sex, though men still retain the urge to a higher level.<\/p>\n
Though women aren’t losing their sex drive completely, it does go to show why so many older men use escorts. To put it simply, if an older woman wants sex one time a week, the guy may want it three times. That leads to a ‘sex shortfall’ which paid companions can make up.<\/p>\n
Still, that aside, it does go to show that there is no real reason for sex to die off when you get older. True you may not get as much as you used to, but you will get some unless you are really unlucky. The idea that you will both be content sitting feeding the ducks is very wrong.<\/p>\n
