Man Who Fought Off Shark Attack Goes to the Pub
January 29, 2014
They say people from New Zealand are made of sterner stuff than most of us. Maybe it is something to do with the rainy and wintry conditions that batter the island constantly?(the amount of people who think it is a warm, Australia like climate is unreal) A recent story however, helped take their reputation on to another level completely.
James Grant, a junior doctor was spearfishing with friends near Colac Bay at the base of New Zealand’s South Island when he was attacked by, what he believed was a sevengill shark.
A Trip to the Pub
He responded by fending off the shark attack with a knife he already had on him, and stitched up his own wound on the beach before enjoying a pint of beer at a nearby pub!
He claims not to have seen the shark coming and had no idea how big it was He added that he thought the shark could have been about 20cm (8in) across the jaw. However, he felt no fear. “[I thought] bugger, now I have to try and get this thing off my leg,” he said.
He quickly made it on to rocks on the shore, where he took off the wetsuit which he had borrowed from a friend, and saw bites up to 5cm long.
Grant gave himself stitches using a first aid kit he kept in his vehicle. He and his friends then went to the Colac Bay Tavern, where he was given a bandage because he was dripping blood on the floor.
He later went to Invercargill hospital where they finished off his stitching for him. He was able to return to work just a couple of days later.
“It would have been great if I had killed it because there was a fishing competition on at the Colac Bay Tavern,” Grant told Stuff.co.nz. “I am pretty grateful to have my leg still,” he added Grant, who is obviously as hard as nails, rounded it off by stating “I am pretty grateful to have my leg still. When the stitches come out, I will be back in the water.”
A Better Option?
Well, you have have to give him credit for his balls. Still, I would rather spend by spare time visiting the London escorts. They will only bite if you ask nicely, but they won’t leave you dripping with blood and feeling thankful you have all of your anatomy at the end of the booking!
Maybe someone should let James Grant know about them?
